Amino Vital® Sports Science Foundation Sponsors Mini-Symposium at International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) Annual Conference
The Amino Vital® Sports Science Foundation sponsored a mini-symposium as part of the International Society of
Sports Nutrition (ISSN) Annual Conference held in New Orleans June 16-18, 2005. Attended by
over 120 ISSN members and their guests, the mini-symposium gave sports nutrition professionals
the opportunity to learn more about branched-chain amino acids via five presentations given by
nutritional experts from around the world.
The five presentations (plus a paper that was not presented at the mini-symposium but which will be included in a manuscript)
ranged over the following topics:
- Nutraceutical effects of branched-chain amino acids on skeletal muscle:
Specific features of the regulation of BCAA catabolism during exercise
Yoshiharu Shimomura, Ph.D., Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan
-
Leucine as a critical regulator of skeletal muscle metabolism regulation of muscle protein synthesis after exercise
Donald K. Layman, Ph.D., University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL
-
The interaction of exercise and amino acids in regulating muscle protein synthesis
Robert R. Wolfe, Ph.D., University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX
-
Branched-chain amino acids and central fatigue
Eva Blomstrand, Ph.D., Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden
-
Learned preference for a mixture of branched-chain L-amino acids and homeostatic control of the brain serotonin release in exercising rats
Kunio Torii, Ph.D., Ajinomoto Co., Inc., Kawasaki, Japan
-
[Paper]
Nutritional effects of ingesting amino acids for
athletes
Masaru Ohtani, Ph.D., Tokyo University, Chiba, Japan
The manuscript of the presentations will be published in an upcoming issue of The Journal of Nutrition.
